PORTHMADOG

Porthmadog manager Crag Papirnyk is looking forward to the new season he shared his views with the league website

OPINION OF YOUR CLUBS PERFORMANCE LAST SEASON

We finished fourth which was pleasing as it showed massive improvement on the 10th finish the season before.

However, I felt had we kept a bit more consistency in our results and not dropped as many points as we did at home we could have closed the gap on the three clubs above us so plenty of positives to take from the campaign and we can build on for this season.

AMBITIONS FOR NEXT SEASON

It is going to be the toughest HGA season yet, so to emulate last season’s finish would be a massive achievement for us, of course, we want to be challenging at the top end and be in the running but we also have to be realistic and I know how difficult it is going to be this season.

We would like to have a coup Nathaniel cup run along with a CA run, every season we want to do well in the Welsh Cup also so plenty to play for early on in the season.

NEW PLAYERS

Leon Doran – young full back who joins form Caersws, very talented with a great athletic physique.

Ifan Emlyn – joins for Bangor and is a very exciting young prospect, plays central midfield and has bag of ability

Joe Chaplin – joins form Conwy, the striker has proven he can score goals at this standard and I hope he brings more goals for us this season.

Jake Jones – joins form Connahs Quay, another young exciting talent who can play on either wing, very direct and technically great.

Iwan Lane – joins from neighbours Penrhyndeudraeth, Iwan is very versatile and can play across the defence and midfield.

Iwan Lewis – returns from Caersws, he is an excellent midfielder with bags of energy.

GROUND YOU LOOK FORWARD TO VISITING AND WHY

The Oval, Caernarfon.

The Gwynedd Derby is becoming bigger and bigger and last season’s Christmas fixture seen 1247 in attendance, it is a great atmosphere and a huge game within the league.

PLAYERS YOU LOOK FORWARD TO WATCHING AND WHY

Mark Jones form Airbus, I have long been admirer of Jonah and it will be great to see him at the Traeth this season.

WHO DO YOU SEE AS IN CONTENTION FOR THE LEAGUE TITLE

Where do you start?!?!?

Airbus have quality, experience and will be tough to stop this season.

Rhyl who also have added experience and quality.

Caernarfon have strengthened, Holywell have a very impressive squad, Denbigh have also recruited really well, and then you have Flint who again have added quality. Caersws have recruited some quality ex WPL players and they will be looking to push on also.

Everyone has strengthened and this is going to be such a tough league , Airbus have to be favourites for me but I would not be surprised if any of the teams above are at the top come the end of the season.

HOW COMPETITIVE DO YOU THINK THE LEAGUE WILL BE NEXT SEASON

Extremely and the best and most competitive it has ever been I think. There are some big clubs in the league now and it is going to be great being part of it every week!

TEAM WHO COULD SURPRISE A FEW

Holyhead have strengthened well as have Ruthin Town, Penrhyncoch will be a season stronger, you then have Guilsfield under new management, Gresford who have a great squad, I am sure Queens Park, and Junction will be relishing their opportunity in the league.

PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR

There are too many to mention!

OPINION OF THE LEAGUE

Improving every season, the calibre of players within the league now is higher than ever before. It is great to be part of it and I am sure we are in for a very interesting season!

WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE ANY CHANGES

It is a shame Rhayader had to pull out last minute, which now leaves two games less for the remaining clubs.

Perhaps something could be put in place that should this happen again , then one of the clubs who could’ve come up in second be given an opportunity .

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD
Sit back and enjoy, it is sure to be a rollercoaster of a season!
